Community Projects
At Tavistock Area Christians Together (TACT), we believe that faith is expressed through love, compassion and service. Inspired by the example of Jesus, we seek to support people across Tavistock and the surrounding area in practical, social and spiritual ways, working alongside churches, charities and community organisations.
The projects featured below each operate independently under their own leadership and governance. TACT is privileged to support them through prayer, encouragement and, where appropriate, practical cooperation. Together, we share a desire to serve our communities with humility, kindness and hope, reflecting God’s love in everyday life and welcoming all who may benefit from these valuable initiatives – click on the images for more information.
Healing Rooms Tavistock
The Healing Rooms provide a peaceful and welcoming place where anyone can receive confidential prayer for healing. Everyone is welcome, whatever their circumstances or background. A caring team, trained in Christian healing ministry, listens with compassion and prays in a safe and supportive environment. There is no charge and no obligation to attend. Furthermore, every conversation remains completely confidential. As a result, the Healing Rooms offer hope, encouragement and the opportunity to experience God’s love through prayer.
Tavistock Food Bank
The Foodbank supports individuals and families across Tavistock and the surrounding area during difficult times. It helps people facing financial hardship or unexpected challenges with practical assistance and compassion. Local churches, organisations and volunteers work together to make this possible. As a result, people receive support with dignity and respect. Through the generosity of the community, nobody has to face a crisis alone. Instead, the Foodbank brings hope, encouragement and practical help when it is needed most.
Open the Book
Open the Book brings Bible stories to life for children in local primary schools. Each week, the TACT team leads engaging 15-minute assemblies at Tavistock Primary School, Princetown Primary School & Mary Tavy & Brentor Primary School. The sessions use storytelling, drama, reflection and prayer to explore the Christian faith. As a result, children enjoy a fun & memorable experience. The programme also helps every child discover the Bible’s message of hope, love and compassion during their primary school years.
Street Pastors
Street Pastors and Prayer Pastors are volunteers from local churches who care deeply about their community. Together, they serve in Tavistock’s town centre during the evening. They offer practical help, listen without judgement and pray for those who need support. They also pray for the safety and wellbeing of everyone in the community. Through simple acts of kindness, they help create a safer and more welcoming town. In doing so, they demonstrate God’s love in practical ways.
School Pastors
School Pastors are trained Christian volunteers who support the wellbeing of young people in local schools. They build positive relationships with students, staff and families. Alongside Prayer Pastors, they provide encouragement, care and prayer where appropriate. The team includes 10 School Pastors and 10 Prayer Pastors who work together across the community. As a result, this ministry promotes kindness, compassion and hope. It also strengthens the partnership between churches, schools and the wider community.
Catalyst
Catalyst exists to help churches connect more effectively with young people, equipping local congregations with practical resources, training and encouragement for youth ministry. By supporting churches as they share the Christian faith with the next generation, Catalyst helps create welcoming spaces where young people can ask questions, build friendships and discover the hope found in Jesus Christ. Through partnership and collaboration, churches can make a lasting difference in the lives of young people across the Tavistock area.
At Tavistock Area Christians Together (TACT), we value the work of Catalyst because it strengthens the Church’s ability to engage with children, teenagers and young adults in meaningful and relevant ways. By connecting churches with proven resources and experienced leaders, Catalyst encourages confidence in youth outreach and discipleship. Together, we can inspire young people to explore faith, grow in their relationship with God and become an active part of their local church and community.
