“I am overwhelmed by the kindness and sincerity of all of those who have helped me and I will be forever grateful.”
— Tavistock Foodbank client
No one should have to worry about where their next meal is coming from. Yet for many individuals and families, rising living costs, unexpected bills and changes in personal circumstances can quickly lead to crisis.
Tavistock Foodbank exists to ensure that nobody in our local community has to face hunger alone. Through practical support, compassionate volunteers and the generosity of local people, the foodbank provides emergency food and hope to those who need it most.
Supporting People in Times of Crisis
Since opening in 2012, Tavistock Foodbank has provided emergency food parcels to people experiencing financial hardship across Tavistock and the surrounding area.
Last year alone, the foodbank distributed 647 three-day emergency food supplies to people in crisis. More than 200 of those who received support were children. Behind every parcel is a person or family facing difficult circumstances, and every donation helps make a real difference.
Working from the United Reformed Church in Tavistock, the foodbank offers not only practical help but also a warm welcome, understanding and dignity during challenging times.
Part of a National Network
Tavistock Foodbank is proud to be part of the Trussell Trust network, which supports hundreds of foodbanks across the United Kingdom.
Together, these foodbanks provide emergency food while working to tackle the causes of poverty and hunger. During 2023/24, foodbanks within the Trussell Trust network distributed more than 3.1 million emergency food supplies, including over 1.1 million for children.
The network also works to help people move beyond crisis through initiatives such as More Than Food, providing support, advice and opportunities that help build brighter futures.
How You Can Help
The continued work of Tavistock Foodbank depends on the kindness of local people, churches, businesses and volunteers.
Donations of food, financial gifts and volunteer time all help ensure that emergency support remains available for those who need it. Every contribution, no matter how large or small, helps bring hope to someone facing a difficult season in life.
If you know someone who may benefit from the foodbank, or if you would like to support its work, help is always available.
